About Us

Our Mission

We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Since our founding in 1991, Habitat for Humanity of Missoula has built affordable housing in communities throughout the city. We believe that everyone deserves a stable way of living and an affordable place to call home. We build community by providing working families the opportunity to purchase a home so they can find stability and build a safe and secure foundation for their future. We believe housing is a human right and we dedicate ourselves to build more, serve more, and be the change our community needs.

Building Philosophy

Habitat for Humanity of Missoula has moved forward in developing our best practices for building better in Missoula. We are challenging the idea that efficient and sustainable methods of building are inherently more expensive. We know Habitat can create smart, regenerative designs while still building homes the partners we serve can afford. By using locally sourced materials to sequester carbon in the homes, every home takes more carbon out of the atmosphere than it produces. Our research partnership with the University of Montana explores using locally sourced and produced materials like hemp, straw, and cellulose fibers in 3D ‘concrete’ printing. These materials have the potential to both save costs for Habitat and the homeowner, as well as reduce the environmental impact of our construction. The insulation foam and asphalt shingles of the past have their place, but we are now able to do better by the families we serve and the environment we live in. If we can build better for cheaper, why wouldn’t we?
